Labor Drill.....funny story

So Monday night we thought that labor had started.  We were making dinner.  All was well.  We stayed calm.  Decided to call my Mom.  I told her no rush.  Finish her day and come on out whenever.  She had been packed with her stuff in her car since the weekend, so she was ready any time.  Josh and I continued to make dinner, clean the kitchen and enjoy a nice meal together.  Over dinner I said, maybe we should get the baby swings out and set up the pack n play downstairs as a diaper changing station tonight, so we aren't messing wity that when we get hime from hospital.  He agreed, so after dinner the house was a buzz with two busy parents getting things all set up for their little boy.

Neither of us were panicking.  We were calm, cool, and collected.  I was enjoying this peaceful execution.  I had pulled Evan's birthday cake and cookies out of the freezer along with the big roast we are planning on having for our welcome home dinner.  I know it will take 2 days or more to thaw.  Before I know it we have two swings set up, the pack n play, the bassinet moved into our bedroom, and we are well under way to packing for the hospital, and my Mom arrives. It seems like only 20 minutes has passed since we called her, but it was a couple hours.

We are all excited, she brings her stuff in.  We check Evan's heart beat. All is well.  We talk.  Josh heads downstairs to catch some of the Monday night football game.  My mom gets settled in her room.  It's getting late, I decide I better go check on Josh to see where his mind is at.  Momma needs to know her support people are ready as well before we hunker down for a good nights sleep.

So I come down and Josh is in his chair watching the game.  I said, "Hey, how are you?" He's said "I'm good!" I said "ok, well I was checking to see where your head was at, and if you felt ready and remember everything we learned and planned to do."   He got up and hugged me and we swayed a little bit and rubbed my back. He said, "I'm totally good, I got this!" (I really do trust that he does, but my need to check on everything and everyone just has to do this!)  so of course I need proof so I say, " oh good, ok well lets hear what you are going to do.". He pulls me out of the hug and grabs me by both shoulders and says with sincere confidence, " It's easy, I just gotta take you to the AIRPORT!!!"

I wait for him to laugh like it was a joke, but then I realize he said that with all confidence! I frowned at him and said, " you mean the hospital, right?!" He grabbed both sides of his face and gasped! " Oh my gosh! I just said I would take you to the airport! My brain is mush!" We both burst out into laughter until we had tears in our eyes.  Mr. Cool had gone mush brain on me! I thought to myself silently, I need to locate that Advanced Labor and Delivery booklet for him!

In his defense, when else do we pack our suitcases so meticulously other than when we are flying somewhere?! So airport makes sense. But I don't really want to have Evan on the runway!

It was good that we all had this "labor drill" so to speak.  It showed me, we both know how to calm, Josh might go mush brain on me, we are a good team, and that Mom can get there fast! And maybe next time, when its the real deal, perhaps we won't have time to do all of the things we did Monday night! Perhaps Evan wanted us to practice and work out the kinks so we are focused on the important things, like him!

It was a good laugh though.........The airport! Ha! We won't forget that story!

Overdue Momma!
