Today we went to church at Traders Point for the first time since Evan was born! It was a whirlwind morning but we actually arrived early! We took Evan in his stroller and checked out the new nursery facilities. The church has done a complete remodel of the children's wing. It's really an amazing place! They have done such a great job of thinking about what kids need but also what parents need as well to make them feel safe about leaving their children with complete strangers!
The staff was so friendly in helping us navigate through signing in and where to go, showing us around, and introducing us to the nursery workers. We thought when we were heading to church that we were just going to check it out and get familiar with the place and maybe leave Evan later sometime when he was older. But after they showed us around, we just went for it and dropped him off!
It's funny how the church just makes you feel like everyone is family!! I mean we don't know these people and they don't know Evan and his cues and I just said, "here he is!!!" Lol! They took him right away and actually don't want anything of yours, no diaper bag, no toys, no diapers at all. They have everything they need. They also don't want kids playing with other kids toys. They have their own that they wipe down three times each Sunday and then the whole place gets deep cleaned through the week. I let them know that I exclusively Breastfeed and they showed us the Breastfeeding room. They put his tag on him and we had ours. He was number was 41.
We said goodbye and made our way to the sanctuary and found aisle seats next to exit!!:) I knew I would get paged because I know his feeding schedule falls during this time of service.
The service started and was very good. I was trying not to obsess over the screen that flashes your number. A few numbers came up but they weren't Evans. I told Josh it's only a matter of minutes before 41 would show up. Two minutes later I saw 41, grabbed the diaper bag and said, "We're up!!" We both jumped out of the service and headed back to see if he was melting down!
As it turns out he was just ready to eat. They said he was really good and very cute but that he was trying to eat the ladies shoulder! One of Evan's classic signs-trying to eat someone's shoulder or cheek when he's hungry!!! I took him to the Breastfeeding room and fed him with two other moms who were doing the same thing. Josh went back to the sanctuary. Because they have a TV and closed circuit of the sermon, I was able to listen to the rest of the sermon. After he ate, I decided to walk the halls in his stroller as he fell back asleep.
All in all, he did great and we felt surprisingly comfortable leaving him with people he didn't know in a nursery setting. It was a great first experience in church with him.
Can't wait to go back!
Momma
